Am I really allergic to feather and down?   What about my Asthma?

The chances are that you are NOT allergenic to feather and down itself.  But you DO probably suffer from an allergy of the natural oils and bacterial components found in these fills that have not been cleansed properly.  Perhaps you may even suffer from some of the chemicals commonly used in efforts to eradicate this problem.

Now allergy and asthma sufferers DO NOT have to deprive themselves of the luxury and comfort of feather and down filled products.  The result of the unique cleaning process by the manufacturer ensures a top-quality hygienic product safe for people suffering from allergies and asthma.  Only the highest of standards are practiced by the manufacturing facility and are certified Oeko-Tex 100/1000 compliant.

Down & Feather - Class 1

Did you know that down and feathers can be labelled in three classes under the EN 12934 standard?

Dykon A/S (Ringsted Dun, Sirius and Beds of a Feather brands) only uses NEW down and feathers of the highest quality (Class 1).

The other two classes are for inferior qualities.   If there is no information on "class", the product in question might be Class 111.

Class 111 permits the use of more than 15% recycled down/feathers from old products that other people have slept in.

All Dykon A/S natural filling qualities meet the requirements of EN 12934 - Class 1

Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 - Class 1 (NEW Fill of Feather and Down)

Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is an independent international product testing system for textiles – from the raw material to the finished product on the shop shelves.

It has four product classes, which differ in the amount of residual chemicals they permit.  The classification does not appear on the label.

The manufacturer,  Dykon A/S (Ringsted Dun, Sirius and Beds of a Feather brands) has opted to certify all its products in accordance with the strictest requirements for Class 1, which means that the products are suitable for babies.

The Class 1 standard specifies very low limit values for, amongst other things:

*    Formaldehyde (can cause allergies)

*    Heavy metals (can cause exzema and damage internal organs and the central nervous system)

*    Pesticides (can affect the nervous system, internal organs and the central nervous system)

*    Aromatic hydrocarbons (perfume allergies and disorders of the nervous system)

Oeko-Tex® Standard 1000

To complement the product-related Oeko-tex Standard 100, the Oeko-Tex Standard 1000 is a testing, auditing and certification system for environmentally-friendly production sites throughout the textile processing chain.

What about house Dust Mites?

The Feather Company London only sells NOMITE® certified quilts and pillows, ensuring all products are safe for allergy and asthma sufferers.

The NOMITE mark is the consumer’s guarantee that the down product cannot harbour house dust mites.  Your additional protection is the tight weave of the down-proof fabric, which works as a barrier, preventing the house dust mites from penetrating the fabric.

Contrary to all myths, down and feathers do not cause allergic reactions.  The culprit is usually the house dust mite and there are several scientific studies documenting this.  People who are allergic to house dust mites can therefore safely buy down products bearing the NOMITE mark.  All Dykon A/S (Ringsted Dun, Sirius and Beds of a Feather brands) manufactured down and feather products are washable at 60 degrees centigrade, which is hot enough to kill house dust mites.

Cleanliness

The DOWNAFRESH® Label is your guarantee of a clean, high-quality product that has been made in accordance with the strictest washing requirements in Europe.   This means that the raw feathers are washed until they satisfy hygiene requirements and dried at more than 100 degrees C.   This guarantees the removal of:  H5N1 strain (bird flu), keratin (scales from down and feathers), bacteria and mould, soap residues, as well as other organic residues.
